The Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara English Medium School, Dharmasthala, regularly organizes a variety of programmes aimed at nurturing human values among students along with academic education. “Thuditha” is one such unique initiative. The programme, which seeks to touch the hearts of those who are unable to respond physically or verbally, has been successfully conducted for the past five years.
As part of the programme, students visit the homes of people who are bedridden or unable to move freely. They spend time with them by talking, singing, chatting, dancing and sharing joyful moments. Through these interactions, the students strive to bring happiness, encouragement and renewed enthusiasm into their lives. They also distribute fruits, sweets and other refreshments and extend financial assistance within their means. In this way, the students make a sincere effort to take the spirit and joy of Independence Day to their homes and hearts.
The sixth edition of Thuditha was inaugurated by Mr. B. Somashekhar Shetty, a recipient of the Best Teacher Award and a retired Student Welfare Officer of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Educational Institutions. He formally launched the programme by distributing the Thuditha kits to the Thuditha team.
Addressing the students, Mr. Shetty appreciated the school and the students for undertaking such a meaningful initiative. He explained the importance of human values and their significance in student life. Through inspiring stories and examples, he conveyed to the students how human values can be practised and carried forward in everyday life.
The Headmistress, Mrs. Parimala M. V., explained the purpose behind the Thuditha initiative and its importance for students. She also shared the journey of Thuditha from its inception and created awareness among the students about its activities and future plans.
Following the inauguration, students and teachers formed teams and visited different homes in and around Dharmasthala. Along with offering emotional support and companionship, they presented various cultural programmes for the residents. They distributed fruits and other refreshments and celebrated Independence Day with them in a meaningful and memorable manner.
With the noble intention of continuing such visits during future national festivals and other important occasions, the sixth edition of Thuditha commenced on the occasion of Independence Day.
The programme was organized in collaboration with the Junior Red Cross and Bharat Scouts and Guides, under the guidance of the Headmistress, Mrs. Parimala M. V.
The presence of the chief guest who hoisted the National Flag, Mr. Jayakumar, a former Indian Army serviceman and Range Forest Officer in the Karnataka Forest Department, added further enthusiasm and inspiration to the students.
